They are Often Covered by Insurance
Dental sealants are an effective, preventative technique used to prevent cavities on permanent molars of school aged children. The American Dental Association reports that sealants on permanent molars reduce the risk of cavities by 80%! Sealants are easily placed, non-invasive, and painless to apply. Sealants provide protection of the biting surfaces of the back teeth where very deep grooves make effective cleansing almost impossible. Most children have sealants placed on their first permanent molars around age 6-7, and then on their second permanent molars around age 12.
How are sealants placed?
Sealants may be applied by a dentist or hygienist who “paints” on the sealant material and light cures it until it is hard. Sealants are composed of resin material; they are very thin plastic coverings. Sealants match the tooth color and generally last several years. We use only the highest quality materials, which are BPA free.
Dental sealants have been commonly used for nearly five decades. They are often covered by insurance.
