Dr. Cristina Santos-Tomas - Board Certified Pediatric Dentist

Dr. Cristina Santos-Tomas, or "Dr. Cristina" as her patients know her, is a Board-Certified specialist in Pediatric Dentistry. By specializing in children's dentistry, her goal is to make every child's visit to the dentist fearless, fun and special. Dr. Cristina is a native of Hartford, Connecticut and a graduate of Northwest Catholic High School. She earned her Bachelor's Degree in Biology from Trinity College and went on to attend the University Of Connecticut School Of Dental Medicine.


After obtaining her lifetime goal of becoming a dentist, her love for children led her to specialize in pediatrics and complete an additional two year Pediatric Dental Residency Program at the University of Connecticut and Connecticut Children's Medical Center. Dr. Cristina served on the clinical teaching staff at Yale New Haven Hospital and Yale School of Medicine for many years and is now part of the faculty of the University Of Connecticut School Of Dental Medicine where she serves as a clinical instructor.

 

Dr. Cristina is a recipient of many awards and honors such as the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry's Annual Case Presentation Award and the Pierre Fauchard Academy Award, recognizing dentists for their professionalism, integrity, and ethics. She is also a recipient of the University of Connecticut Dental School Pediatric Dentistry Award and Community Service Award. As a dental student, Dr. Cristina was honored the Award of Excellence by the American Student Dental Association.

 

She has served as a volunteer for many organizations including Special Olympics-Special Smiles, the Child Health Identification Program (CT-CHIP), the UConn Medical and Dental School Mentor Program and the UConn Dental Campaign to Peru, where she and fellow dentists provided dental care and education to the most impoverished and rural villages of the Amazon.

 

Dr. Cristina is a member of the American Dental Association, the Connecticut State Dental Association and the Hartford Dental Society. She is also an active member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and a Diplomate to the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry.Dr. Cristina is past Vice-President of the Connecticut Society of Pediatric Dentists and currently serves on their executive board.

 

Dr. Cristina loves spending time with her husband Patrick and their son, Tyler Jacob and their newborn son. In her free time, she loves to craft and scrapbook.

 

Dr. Cristina and her husband, Patrick had a dream that came true in 2009 when they opened Newington Children’s Dentistry. Their vision and mission was to provide a family oriented state of the art pediatric practice that would offer loving, specialized care with a reputation of excellence and compassion for children.

Patrick Tomas - Practice Director

Pat was born and raised in nearby Wallingford, Connecticut. He obtained his Bachelor's Degree in Cytogenetics and his Master's Degree in Molecular Biology from the University of Connecticut in 1998. He continued his studies by completing a clinical rotation in Cytogenetics at the University of Florida in Gainesville and a rotation in Molecular Pathology at Hartford Hospital.

 

Pat's career in research began at the University of Connecticut Health Center investigating Lyme Disease and other infectious diseases before becoming an associate scientist and project manager for Invitrogen's Bio-Defense Division in Branford, Connecticut. His background in science and project management helps ensure our practice runs smoothly and parents’ expectations are exceeded at each visit.

 

In his free time, Pat's hobbies can be described as his list of favorite "G"s: Golf, Guitars and Going to Baseball Games!

Dr. Mariya Trentcheva - Board Certified Pediatric Dentist

“Dr. Mariya” as her patients know her, is a Board Certified specialist in pediatric dentistry. She believes in compassionate, patient centered care. She is dedicated to providing the best dental treatment while giving children a positive outlook on dentistry and oral health.

 

Dr. Mariya was born and raised in Bulgaria and after graduating high school, came to the United States to pursue a career in healthcare. Dr. Mariya received her Bachelor's Degree in Psychology at Hunter College in NYC and completed her dental education at Stony Brook University School of Dental Medicine in Long Island, NY, where she obtained her doctorate degree in 2009. Upon graduation, Dr. Mariya received an award for excellence in working with special needs patients.

 

Dr. Mariya began her career in dentistry as a General Practice Resident at New York Presbyterian Hospital–Weill Cornell in Manhattan, where she spent two years treating children and adults. Particularly rewarding was her rotation at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center where she had the opportunity to work with cancer patients. She continued her postdoctoral training and completed a two year Pediatric Dentistry Residency at Yale-New Haven Hospital. Dr. Mariya is also an active member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and a Diplomate to the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry.

 

Dr. Mariya’s hobbies include traveling with her husband and photography.

Amy - Clinical Manager / Registered Dental Hygienist

Amy received her Certificate in Dental Assisting in 2001 from Tunxis Community College and for six years worked as an Expanded Duties Dental Assistant enjoying every minute of educating patients, being a team player and attending continuing education. In 2006, Amy felt she would like to further her education in dentistry and attended a three year Dental Hygiene Program at Briarwood College in Southington, Connecticut where she graduated in May 2009 with an Associate of Science Degree in Dental Hygiene.

In Amy's spare time she enjoys spending time with her husband, her family and friends. She also enjoys traveling, going to the beach, skiing and loving her two cats and corgi Molly.

Amy's compassion for children and love of dentistry is evident when she works with children. Her goal for each child is to make their dental experience fun, educational and pleasant, leaving them smiling until their next visit.

Chrissy - Registered Dental Hygienist

Chrissy was born and raised and resides in nearby New Britain, CT. Like her co-worker Amy, Chrissy obtained her Associate of Science Degree in Dental Hygiene as a member of Briarwood College's first graduating dental hygiene class in 2009.

Chrissy loves making a visit to our office a positive, pleasant and educational experience for her patients. Although Chrissy has worked with many different patient populations throughout her hygiene career, she is thrilled to work with her favorite group-children!

In Chrissy's spare time she enjoys participating in outdoor activities such as fishing, hiking, snowboarding, swimming and playing with her dogs, Odie and Jax. She is a fan of many types of music and art and loves enjoying them with family and friends.

Jenn - Certified Dental Assistant

Jenn was born and raised in Poulsbo, Washington. She received her Certificate in Dental Assisting in 2007 from Clover Park Technical College and for the last four and a half years worked as an Expanded Duties Dental Assistant in Puyallup, Washington. Her love of working with children and dentistry go hand in hand by making sure every child has a great experience, leaving with a sparkling smile and relieving any nervousness parents may have as well.


Jenn moved to Cheshire, Connecticut in January of 2012 and loves every bit of the New England area. Jenn loves to spend time with her husband, family and friends, playing with their two Shih Tzu dogs Fluffy and Jasmine, sailing, playing pool, snowboarding, and going to the beach.

Kelly - Patient Care Coordinator / Surgical Coordinator

Kelly was born and raised in New Britain, Connecticut. She joined our practice with several years of experience in general dentistry and has shown great interest in advancing her career in pediatric dentistry.


Kelly especially loves the strong family atmosphere in our office. She loves working with children and has enjoys getting to know them and their families. Kelly loves spending time with her fiancé, their two beautiful children Kayden and Izabella and their dog, Copper. She also loves spending time with her family and friends.


On Kelly's spare time she enjoys riding motorcycles and fishing with her dad. Kelly is also a committed volunteer in her church community.

Thais - Certified Dental Assistant

Thais was born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and came to the U.S. when she was 7, traveling back and forth over the years and eventually settling down in Wethersfield. She recently graduated from the University of Connecticut with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology!


Thais had aspirations of a career in dentistry. She began her history with our practice as a student shadowing in our office. After seeing her enthusiasm, Thais was invited to join our team and became a sterilization technician. She later trained to become a pediatric dental assistant. She is working towards her goal to be a dental hygienist.


Thais loves working with children and is excited to be part of a professional, hardworking team! She enjoys spending time with family and friends, taking her dog Penny to the dog park and sunny days at the beach!

Leighanne – Certified Dental Assistant

Leighanne was born and raised in Meriden, Connecticut where she worked as a head teacher at a local daycare. Leighanne's passion for working with children led her to Porter and Chester where she graduated in 2013 with her certificate in Dental Assisting. Leighanne strives to always make sure the parents and the children are comfortable at every visit and leave with a sticker and a smile!


Leighanne loves to be with her family and friends. When not at work, she keeps up with her dance skills at hip hop classes, goes on adventures and loves playing with her dog, Sammy. She cannot wait to meet you and your family!

Amber – Patient Care Coordinator

Amber was born and raised in Middletown. She earned her dental assisting degree from Porter and Chester and started her career in dentistry as a dental assistant. Amber came to us with several years of experience in general dentistry. As the years progressed; she grew an interest in an administrative and billing role. She takes pride in her work and her meticulous attention to detail.


In her spare time, she loves to travel and spend time with her son, her family and her fish, Azul.

Anna- Patient Care Coordinator

Anna was born and raised in New Britain, CT. She joined our practice with more then seven years of experience in general dentistry. Anna shows strong interest in advancing in the dental field and continuing her education in the pediatric field. She loves children and is excited to work with them and their families each day.


In Anna's spare time she enjoys spending time with her husband, family, friends, and her teacup Yorkshire Terrier, Brooklyn. She comes from a Polish background and likes to take part in her town's community functions. Anna's hobbies include exercising, traveling, going to the beach, and any outdoor activities.

Kristen – Registered Dental Hygienist

Kristen was born and raised in our hometown of Newington. She received her Certificate in Dental Assisting in 2009 from Briarwood College and for four years worked as a Dental Assistant in an endodontic dental office. Kristen furthered her education and attended a three-year dental hygiene program at Lincoln College of New England.


Kristen loves spending time with her husband, family and new puppy, Ella. They enjoy jet skiing and camping in the summer and snowmobiling and skiing in the winter. Kristen loves working with kids and dedicates herself to making patients feel comfortable during their visits.

Isabel- Patient Care Coordinator

Isabel was born and raised in New Britain and is currently residing in Bristol. Isabel earned her associate's degree from Tunxis Community College. She joined our practice with over 6 years of experience in the dental field. She made the switch to our pediatric practice because of her love for working with children.


In Isabel's spare time, she loves spending time with her fiancé, her family and their dog, Angel. Isabel is a mother to a beautiful little girl, Esmeralda and is expecting a little boy this year.
